In collaboration with the Siaya County Government and other partners, NETFUND launched a tree growing campaign that aims to increase the Siaya County forest cover, which at 0.41 percent, is the lowest in the Country. The campaign is in line with the President’s clarion call, for Kenyans to rally together to achieve the goal of 10 per cent forest cover by 2022.
The campaign, that was launched at Maranda Boys High Sch., by the chair of NETFUND Board of Trustees, Hon. Rev. Moses Akaranga, and that saw 2,000 trees planted, also aims to complement the Ministry of Environment and Forestry goal to plant and grow over 500 million trees per year, an initiative which is part of the Government’s strategy to increase Kenya’s forest cover to 10 percent by the year 2022. Siaya County Commissioner Mr. Michael Tialal, Siaya County Environment and Water, Eng. Adrian Ouma, and NETFUND Ag CEO, Mr. Samson Toniok, among other senior officials attended the event.
